NotifiUs partners with your treatment center to provide continuous support through secure text messaging during your recovery journey. This service helps you stay connected with your care team between appointments and provides immediate support when you need it most.
Our SMS treatment support is designed specifically for individuals in substance use disorder recovery programs. We understand that recovery is a daily commitment, and our technology helps bridge the gap between your scheduled appointments with personalized, timely communication.
Types of Messages that You May Receive Depending on the Specific Wellness Plan Agreed Upon with Your Counselor.
Task Reminders “Hi [Your Name], please remember to complete your daily medication check today. Reply 1.Y when completed.”
Task Completion Message “Hi [Your Name], how did you feel completing your task today; 1.Happy, 2. Neutral, or 3. Struggling.”
Emotional Check Message Also let your counselor know if you are happy or “struggling’ to complete your task. This message is sent along with your task completion message.
Appointment Reminders “Reminder: You have a counseling session tomorrow at 2:00 PM with [Counselor Name]. “
Crisis Support. The patient indicates that they were unable to complete an assigned task and requests to be contacted by the counselor. Both the counselor and mentor will receive an Alert message indicating that [patient name] has requested assistance. Depending on the steps of your Wellness Plan either the counselor or mentor or both will contact you. For immediate assistance, call Crisis Line [to be provided by the patients’ treatment center.]
Motivational Messages “Great job completing your weekly counseling session! Your commitment to recovery is making a real difference. Keep up the excellent work.”
Progress Celebrations “Congratulations! You’ve completed 30 days of consistent wellness check-ins. This is a significant milestone in your recovery journey.”
How SMS Treatment Support Works
- Verbal Consent Process: Your counselor obtains your verbal consent during your treatment appointment and confirms your mobile phone number.
- Personalized Plan Creation: Your treatment center creates a customized wellness plan with specific tasks and check-ins tailored to your recovery needs.
- Automated Message Delivery: You receive text messages based on your personalized schedule – typically 3-8 messages per day during active treatment.
- Simple Response System: You respond using simple replies like Y/N, with emotional emphasis such as Happy, Neutral or Struggling, or keywords like HELP, or STOP.
- Care Team Monitoring: Your responses are monitored by your treatment team who can provide additional support when needed.
- Flexible Opt-Out: You can stop receiving messages anytime by replying STOP or asking your counselor.
Your Privacy is Protected
HIPAA Compliant All messages are encrypted and follow strict healthcare privacy laws. Your personal health information is protected at the highest level required for medical communications.
42 CFR Part 2 Protected Extra federal protections apply to your substance use disorder treatment information. This means even stricter confidentiality rules protect your recovery communications.
Secure Communication Only your authorized care team can access your message responses. Messages are transmitted using bank-level encryption and stored securely.
No Marketing Messages You will never receive promotional, advertising, or marketing messages through this service. All communications are strictly treatment-related.
Confidential Data Handling Your information is never sold, shared with unauthorized parties, or used for any purpose other than supporting your treatment and recovery.
Giving Your Consent
Your consent to receive SMS treatment support is obtained verbally by your licensed treatment counselor. This personal approach ensures you fully understand the service and can ask questions immediately.
During your consent conversation, your counselor will:
- Explain how the SMS service works and what types of messages you’ll receive
- Confirm your current mobile phone number and verify it can receive text messages
- Ask for your verbal agreement to participate in SMS treatment communications
- Answer any questions you have about the service, privacy, or opt-out procedures
- Document your consent in your treatment record with date, time, and signature
Important to remember:
- Your consent is completely voluntary
- You can receive excellent treatment whether or not you choose SMS support
- You can change your mind and opt-out at any time without affecting your treatment
- No treatment services will be withheld if you decline SMS communications
Message Costs and Frequency
Cost Information Standard text messaging rates from your mobile carrier may apply to each message sent and received. NotifiUs does not charge any fees for our SMS treatment support service. Contact your mobile carrier for details about your text messaging plan costs.
Message Frequency (Number and Frequency Vary by Wellness Plan)
- Active Treatment Phase: 3-8 messages per day including check-ins, reminders, and responses
- Maintenance Phase: 1-3 messages per day for ongoing support
- Crisis Situations: Additional messages may be sent as medically necessary for your safety
Message Timing Messages are typically sent between 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM in your local time zone, unless you specify different preferences with your counselor.
Carrier Compatibility This service works with all major US wireless carriers including Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and most regional carriers. Compatible with smartphones and basic phones that can receive text messages.
Getting Started
To begin receiving SMS treatment support:
- Speak with your counselor during your next appointment about SMS treatment support
- Give your verbal consent and confirm your mobile phone number
- Ask any questions you have about the service or privacy protections
- Begin receiving messages within 24-48 hours of your consent
Your first message will be a welcome text to confirm the service is working properly.
